Cedar Park, TX – The Westlake Chaps travelled to Cedar Park to open their season against the Timberwolves and their half dozen college prospects. The Cedar Park offense, led Texas baseball commit Nathan Thornhill and Texas football commit Dominic Espinosa, sputtered after a 14-point first quarter. Burnt Orange Beat filed this report and photo gallery of the top prospects.
The first quarter for the Cedar Park Timberwolves looked like what many natives were expecting from the club. The power running behind its massive offensive line and a stingy defense gave Cedar Park a 14-7 lead. But after the first twelve minutes, the Timberwolves bogged down and ultimately gave up too many big plays on special teams and defense to hold off the Westlake Chaps who prevailed 24-14.
The Cedar Park offense is quarterbacked by Texas baseball commitment Nathan Thornhill, who many expect to be a key cog in the rotation in years to come. The offensive line is led by center Dominic Espinosa who pledged to the Longhorns in February. Left tackle Spencer Drango will be a top prospect in 2011 and both right tackle Will Wofford and tight end Beau Smith will be recruited.
The defense is led by FSU commitment Holmes Onwufaife (DE/OLB) and 2011 linebacker prospect Chet Moss. Moss ended the game with five unassisted tackles and two quarterback hurries. Moss did also block a punt that was nullified as the defense had twelve men on the field.
