Texas Commits Schedule: Week One

Every Texas commit in the 2010 class will be on football fields around the state this weekend. Week one, as it is officially referred to, features a long standing rivalry between John Tyler and Lufkin on Friday. Burnt Orange Beat provides this handy viewing guide.

Week one, or the second week of games, of the high school season is a couple of days away with the Garland Owls and Naaman Forest taking the field on Thursday night with both teams playing in Garland.

On Friday, Tyler John Tyler and Lufkin will play at Rose Stadium with both future Longhorns nursing injuries. Carrington Byndom will be out for a second straight week, while Ashton Dorsey missed the second half last week with an ankle sprain.

Daingerfield will travel to Paul Pewitt in a small school game that features speed, speed and more speed.

The marquee matchup of the week will very likely take place in Sulphur Springs with Bryant Jackson and Whitehouse junior receiver Trey Metoyer matching up.

Garland (1-0)

Garland, coming off a 60-7 win over Dallas Kimball, will play host to Duncanville (1-0) at Garland's Williams Stadium at 7pm on Thursday, September 3rd.

Tevin Jackson posted seven tackles and a fumble recovery in the opener. Adrian Phillips posted two tackles, one rush for three yards and three catches for 48 yards.

Garland Naaman Forest (1-0)

Naaman Forest plays host to Lewisville (1-0) at Garland's H.B. Johnson Stadium at 7pm on Thursday, September 3rd. Naaman Forest beat Whitehouse 41-34 last week. John Harris rushed for 116 yards and a score on 24 carries as well as completing seven of 10 passes for 68 yards in the win.

Haltom (0-1)

Haltom hits the road to take on Hurst Bell (0-0) at Bedford's Pennington Field on Friday, September 4th at 7:30pm. Haltom lost last week to Irving Nimitz 14-13. Hurst Bell features junior running back Kenneth Farrow.

Cedar Hill (1-0)

The state-ranked Longhorns hit the road to take on Wichita Falls Rider (0-0) on September 4 at 7:30pm at Wichita Falls Memorial Stadium.

Cedar Hill won a thriller over DeSoto 44-41 on Saturday. Aaron Benson registered 15 tackles, while junior QB/athlete Driphus Jackson threw for 100 yards and two scores as well as rushing for 40 yards and another touchdown.

DeSoto (0-1)

DeSoto plays host to Plano High (0-1) on Friday, September 4 at 7:30pm. DeSoto lost a heartbreaker to Cedar Hill 44-41 last week. Darius Terrell caught seven passes for 82 yards last week, while Adrian White picked off a pass in the loss.

Tyler John Tyler (1-0)

John Tyler plays host to the Lufkin Panthers (1-0) Friday, September 4 at Tyler's Rose Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm. John Tyler beat Texas High 41-17 last week, but played without Ashton Dorsey in the second half due to an ankle sprain.

Lufkin beat Tyler Lee 27-13 last week. Carrington Byndom will be out of action for the second straight week with a cracked thumb bone.

Cedar Park (0-1)

Cedar Park, led by Texas commit Dom Espinosa, hits the road in hopes of getting their first win on Friday, September 4 at Temple. Cedar Park dropped their season opener to Austin Westlake 24-14.

Alief Taylor (1-0)

Alief Taylor plays host for a second straight week with Houston Jones (0-1) being this week's opponent on Friday, September 4 at 7pm at Crump Stadium. De'Aires Cotton posted six tackles, one for loss and a quarterback pressure in the win over Houston Bellaire.

Jones lost to Houston Chavez 49-0 last week.

North Shore (0-1)

North Shore looks to rebound from their season opening loss to Katy. The Mustangs, led by Texas commit Trey Hopkins, play host to Aldine Eisenhower September 4 at 7pm at Galena Park ISD Stadium.

Eisenhower dropped their season opener to Fort Bend Hightower 21-0.

Denton Guyer (1-0)

Denton Guyer plays host to Stephenville (0-1) at Denton's C.H. Collins Athletic Complex on Friday, September 4 at 7pm. Guyer beat Carrollton Newman-Smith 34-28 last week.

Stephenville lost to Aledo 20-16 last week.

Sulphur Springs (1-0)

Sulphur Springs looks to improve to 2-0 on Friday, September 4 at 7:30pm playing host to Whitehouse (0-1). Sulphur Springs beat Paris 33-21 last week. Texas commit Bryant Jackson caught three passes for 86 yards and a touchdown as well as rushed for 34 yards on three carries in addition to playing corner.

Whitehouse junior receiver Trey Metoyer caught 16 passes for 177 yards and two scores in the opener. Metoyer and Jackson will likely match up one on one a handful of times Friday night.

Graham (0-0)

Graham hits the road for their season opener taking on Clyde on Friday, September 4 at 7:30pm. Case McCoy and his Graham teammates face a tough task in their opener against a Clyde team that has played deep into the playoffs in recent years.

Daingerfield (1-0)

Daingerfield looks to improve to 2-0 on Friday, September 4 at Paul Pewitt at 7:30pm. Daingerfield won their opener versus Atlanta 21-14. Chris Jones caught a 71-yard touchdown pass and totaled 92 yards on three receptions.

Cayuga (0-1)

Top ranked Cayuga looks to rebound on Friday, September 4 at 7:30pm playing host to Grand Saline. Cayuga lost to Frankston 33-26 last week. Texas commit Traylon Shead rushed for 166 yards and two scores on 26 carries.

St. Pius X (0-1)

St. Pius X hits the road to take on West Columbia on Friday, September 4 at 7:30pm. St. Pius X dropped their season opener to Houston Westbury 41-37. St. Pius X played without three defensive starters.

Second Baptist (0-1)

Second Baptist looks to bounce back from their season opening loss of Friday, September 4 playing host to St. John's School at 7pm. Connor Wood threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns as well as rushing for 74 yards in the 57-17 loss to Sealy.
