Tracking Traylon: Game Two

One of the top stories in high school football this season in Texas is Cayuga running back Traylon Shead and his climb in the high school record books both in state and nationally. On Friday, the future Longhorn rushed for 290 yards and three touchdowns in a 46-6 win over Grand Saline.

Traylon Shead continued his assault on the Texas high school and national record books on Friday in a blowout win over Grand Saline. The 6-2, 210 pound senior and his Cayuga teammates rebounded from a loss to open the season against Frankston with a convincing 46-6 win over a 2A program.

In the win, the future Longhorn rushed for 290 yards on 26 carries. With 290 more yards in the books, Shead moved up 11 spots on the national career rushing record list and is up #24 all time.

At 3,183 yards shy of Ken Hall's all-time record, Shead would have to average 227.4 yards with Cayuga advancing to the 1A state title playing a 16-game season. Should Cayuga play a 13-game season and not advance as far in the playoffs, Shead would need to average 289.4 yards to break the record.

With 26 carries in the books, Shead is now sitting at 830 career attempts. Shead now needs 292 carries to jump into the top ten nationally.

Shead also scored three touchdowns on Friday. With 107 career touchdowns, the three-sport star is now 30 away from the state record held by Jacquizz Rodgers, which ranks eighth nationally.

This week, the Wildcats will take on 1A program Dawson. The Bulldogs return eight defensive starters off of a 6-5 team in 2008.
