Spring Football: Position Moves, Academic Losses

Several Horns will be at new positions in two weeks when Spring Football kicks off; a few won't be there at all.

With the Horns dwindling numbers at defensive end (see Hot News on Bryan Pickryl), it's not at all surprising that the coaches are looking to boost the DE numbers heading into spring with the move of several players to the position. Most notable among the names that will get a look at the spot is former linebacker sophomore Mike Williams. Junior Austin Sendlein will get a look at both DE and TE, and redshirt sophomore Eric Hall, who has bounced between LB and DE, will work during the spring at DE.

Junior former DT Stevie Lee will move to the opposite side of the line, working during the spring with the OLs. Redshirt freshman Neal Tweedie will get looks at both OT and TE. With Bo Scaife still rehabbing from his fall knee surgery (leaving just Brock Edwards and David Thomas at the TE spot), the Horns are about as thin at TE as at DE, predicating the moves of Sendlein and Tweedie.

Texas will also practice without sophomore free safety Rufus Harris, senior DT Adam Doiron and junior OL Lionel Garr who are in a similar position to Dakarai Pearson last spring. Pearson sat out spring ball while getting his academics in order and returned and started in the fall. "I think they'll all be back if they want to be back," Mack Brown said Monday.
