Baseball: No. 1 Horns Complete Sweep Of UTA, 8-6

The top-ranked Texas baseball team (6-1) put the finishing touches on a three-game sweep of UT-Arlington (2-3) with an 8-6 win at Disch-Falk Field, Monday. Texas freshman <B>Sam LeCure</b> picked up his second win of the season in relieving starter <B>Eugene Espineli</b>.

Both squads registered single runs in the opening frame as Eric Sultemeier answered Paul Bruder's RBI with his sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second to even the score, 1-1. The New Braunfels product went 2-for-3, including two RBI, on a day when the visitors scattered 13 base hits.

The Mavericks jumped out on top, 3-1, in the top of the third on the strength of a Ryan Roberts' triple. But Texas would immediately respond with two runs of its own with J.D. Reininger's sacrifice fly and Sultemeier's RBI-single.

Texas took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth, starting with Omar Quintanilla RBI-single. Quintanilla, 2-for-3 on the day, extended his hitting streak to 13 games dating back to last season. Texas led 5-3 at the end of the fourth and added another run in the fifth.

UTA drew within 6-5 with two sixth-inning runs but, for the third time in the contest, Texas would reciprocate in full. Majewski's two-run triple gave the Horns an 8-5 advantage.

Before moving on, the Movin' Mavs manufactured one run on three base hits to produce a run in the seventh.

Texas hosts Southwest Texas State in a 2:30 p.m. game at Disch-Falk Field on Tuesday.
