Summer decision for Jenkins

Lewisville (Texas) Hebron High cornerback David Jenkins has offers from schools around the country. This summer he plans on making a final decision on where he will play his college football. Read the LonghornDigest update for the inside scoop!

Lewisville (Texas) Hebron High cornerback David Jenkins has seen his stock soar over the last several months. This off-season he went from being virtually unknown to landing offers from powerhouse programs like LSU, Texas and Boise State. LonghornDigest caught up with the 6-foot-1, 190-pound stud last weekend in college station to get the latest on his recruitment.

According to Jenkins, he holds offers from Arizona, Boise State, Colorado State, LSU, Memphis, New Mexico, Texas and Virginia. Many believe LSU to be a favorite because he is from Louisiana, but he insists he has no leader at the moment.

"They are all even. I'm getting to the point of narrowing things down though. I'm saying I'll be committed by the end of July. Going into my senior year I want to be focused on football for my last year of high school," said Jenkins.

With a summer decision looming, it looks like the Tigers will have the last crack at trying to persuade the Lewisville defender. He will be heading to Baton Rouge this weekend to participate in LSU's summer camp.

Jenkins was also on-hand in Austin last month for the Longhorns summer camp and had good things to say about his experience.

"It went great, I went out and played my game and showed what I have to give. I feel like I performed to the best of my ability. The coaches said I did great. I came back with an offer so that was good. Texas is a great program, they have a great school, great teachers. They don't just worry about football, they want to prepare you for life after football because everybody can't go to the pros."

Jenkins spent most of his time with defensive backs coach (Duane) Akina while on campus.

In addition to making his college choice this summer, the Lewisville playmaker plans on working hard to prepare himself for his upcoming senior season.

"I want to get better at my footwork. It's going to come down to fundamentals in college. So I'm going to get an early jump on it, because everybody is going to be an athlete."

Jenkins is also setting some lofty goals for his upcoming senior season at Hebron High.

"We're going to state, we're going to win state. Everyone says it but I mean it. We have the guys to do it, I believe in my team and my team believes in me."
