Texas and Irish to meet?

Multiple reports are saying that Notre Dame and Texas are close to finalizing negotiations for a four game series starting in 2015.

Brian Hamilton of the Chicago Tribune reported on Tuesday night that Notre Dame and Texas are close to finalizing negotiations for a four game series starting in 2015.

The two have played before, but not since 1996. Notre Dame owns an 8-2 advantage in the all-time series.

Texas could be looking for help to bolster their future schedule. This after finding out a Big 12 conference championship game is more than likely no longer in their immediate future.

With offers to join various conferences, Notre Dame decided to forgo affiliation and stay independent. A move to put Texas on their schedule would be a message that they can still keep their schedule loaded.

It would also Notre Dame with a chance to play in front of Texas high school recruits. Currently the Irish have four Texas products, but would love the chance to snag more from the Lone Star State.

A series would create some major buzz. Only Michigan has more wins all-time than the two respected programs.
