Starts favors Texas early

Michael Starts is a bit of an unknown. After this season, he won't be. The La Vega HS product favors Texas right now out of the schools that are sending him information. What does he like about the Longhorns? Come inside for the latest!

Michael Starts is a bit of an unknown. After this season, he won't be.

The La Vega High School 2012 offensive tackle is making the transition to the o-line from tight end this year.

"I gained a little bit of weight, but I'm trying to lose it," said Starts. "I actually like both of them. Schools are looking at me more as a tackle in college. My coach is telling me I still could play tight end this year. We have some different formations from last year, but I could go back and fourth this season."

At 6-foot-4, 275 pounds, Starts is hearing from Texas, Baylor, TCU, Kansas, and Texas A&M.

"Right now my favorite is Texas. I like the how they run the football program, the offense they run, just everything about the way they play the game," said Starts.

Starts knows that Texas can for the most part cherry pick the state, pulling in the top talent at each position.

"If they offer, I will feel on top of the world. I will be really honored."

Starts, who also plays basketball, hit up the TCU and Baylor camp this summer.

"I just did everything I could to get better this summer. My goal was to help my team in anyway I could, whatever the coaches wanted me to do," said the junior.

The Pirates finished last year 7-5, but dropped this first game last Friday to Prosper 15-14.

"We have to learn to put teams away. We did a great job in the 1st half, but in the second we slowed down. We gotta learn how to finish it," said Starts.
