One of the major needs for the Toledo Rockets within the 2017 Recruiting Class is to get some playmakers on the outside for the next Rocket quarterback to throw to in the years to come. The Rocket coaching staff is looking for someone who can make plays in space and burn defenses. The prospect that the Rockets are targeting to do all of those things is 2017 Bowling Green, KY (South Warren High School) receiver C.J. Hayes, the number one receiver in the state of Kentucky.

Toledo is in really good position for Hayes, in fact The Rockets have taken the lead within his recruitment. Heading into Hayes’ commitment date on June 18th, the Rockets appear to be in prime position to land a commitment from the talented playmaker.

I love the Toledo program,” Hayes said about Toledo. “I love Coach Candle and Coach Sage, really the whole coaching staff. Toledo is high up there for me. Actually, they are currently my leader within my recruitment. I do plan to commit on June 18th and the chances look good for Toledo.”

The coaching staff is recruiting Hayes heavily. However, Toledo is recruiting the top receiver in the state of Kentucky in a unique way. They’re recruiting Hayes to be the next Eric Page if you say, or a player who make defenses scheme to defend him. Not to mention, they’re doing that by building a great relationship with Hayes at the same time.

“I love how they’re planning to use me,” Hayes mentioned about the Toledo coaching staff. “Too sum it up, they are planning on getting the ball in my hands, something I really like to hear. The entire coaching staff is really cool, they have an awesome head coach in Coach Candle and they really care about me. I know they are family oriented, too."

It’s pretty clear how much of a target Hayes is for The Rockets. Not only is the coaching staff recruiting him, some of Toledo’s recruits and players are in contact with the talented receiver. Both the players and commits are in a lot of contact with Hayes.

Caleb Martin mostly recruits me. I try to talk to him a lot. I talk to current players like Logan Woodside, Zach Yousey, Desmond Phillips, and Cody Thompson. Just telling me how great the Toledo family is. I really like them. I love what they have to say about Toledo and I value their opinion. They are recruiting me very hard.”

The Rockets took the lead for Hayes back in April when he decided to visit Toledo along with his parents for his second overall visit to campus. That trip really propelled Toledo in front of his recruitment. During his visit, he had a chance to take a more extended look into the educational side of Toledo.

“I visited Toledo back in April and the visit was great. That was my second time being there and it had a really great atmosphere. I got to check out the educational side of Toledo and they have biology as a major, which I like. I got along great with the current players and commits and I have a great relationship with the whole team.”

The Rockets have shown Hayes that he is a top-target for them. They even have their players and commits pursuing the Kentucky prospect. However, Hayes does have a list of eight schools who are standing out, but will not share that list. I have no doubt in my mind that Toledo is at the top to land him and with Hayes planning to visit the Rockets one more time before his commitment date on June 18th, they are looking very good to land him.
