On Monday, Toledo Athletics showed off their new renovations at The Glass Bowl. The new renovations include a brand new field and FieldTurf surface when the Rockets take the field on Sept. 10 against Maine. The new FieldTurf surface won't change much other than a darker shade of colors being used to keep the shades from fading as quickly along with the numbers on the field being outlined in a dark shade of blue.
"We made a few tweaks but overall, we felt we wanted to stay with our current look," Assistant Athletic Director for Operations and Events, Tim Warga stated, "The bench areas are solid blue and the numbers on the field are outlined in blue but otherwise from a fan's perspective, it looks very similar."
The Glass Bowl surface was in need of a re-surfacing and replaces the old surface that was installed in 2008. Several players had their first chance to check out the field on Monday.
"It's nice, a lot different from the old turf," said junior quarterback Logan Woodside, "It's thicker and softer and feels more like real grass. It's not as hard so that should help prevent injuries," Woodside added.
On top of the field renovation, the Rockets will also unveil a new design on the East Side of the stadium, adding more concessions and a bathroom renovation which will be ready for the 2016 Football season.
