Several Toledo Targets Could Be Nearing A Decision

As the 2017 Class begins to heat up for the Toledo Rockets, there are several recruits that the Rockets are hoping to gain commitments from.

The Toledo Rockets are building their 2017 recruiting class with talent and character. This recruiting period, it looks as if Toledo will only look to bring in eighteen to twenty recruits. Despite that number, the Rocket coaching staff is looking to obviously get the best talent for the class and there are several unsigned recruits who are considering Toledo.

C.J. Hayes - South Warren HS (Bowling Green, KY)

We start with the top 2017 receiver in the state of Kentucky - C.J. Hayes. Hayes will announce his college decision on June 18 and has his list narrowed down to his top eight schools, which should be coming soon. However, since announcing his intentions to commit next month, Hayes has received offers from Ohio and Purdue. The 6'2", 195-pound wide out says Toledo is "high" on his list and named Toledo as his number one school on May 2nd after his visit to Northwest Ohio in which he gave an, "A+ without a doubt." While a lot can change in a month and a half prior to a commitment, Hayes says he knows which school he wants to commit to despite narrowing his list down to eight. In my eyes, Purdue and Toledo are the frontrunners for him right now. Hayes would have a chance to see the field very quickly in his collegiate career in Toledo with the graduation of slot, Corey Jones coming in the spring. We'll keep you posted as Hayes' announcement nears.

Mustafa Khaleefah - Dearborn HS (Dearborn, MI)

You want to talk about size? 2017 offensive lineman, Mustafa Khaleefah has it. 6'6", 285-pounds and that could be on the small side of the true measureables of Khaleefah. Therefore, ten schools have offered the Michigan-native, including Toledo. Khaleefah has offers from nearly every Mid-American Conference school and Cincinnati, plus interest from Big Ten schools Michigan State and Purdue as well. Khaleefah visited Toledo on May 12th and gave his visit an 'A' saying that his talk with Coach Candle went great. While Khaleefah told us that Toledo is definitely at the top of his current schools, he added that Cincinnati is near the top as well. Other than Toledo and Cincinnati, Khaleefah does not yet have an exact list of favorites but will take further visits. Khaleefah visited the Rockets with a high school coach and some teammates as well and says they all like the visit. We'll keep you posted on his recruitment, the timeframe for a commitment looks to be middle to late August.

Cody Lamb - Miamisburg HS (Miamisburg, OH)

Offensive line is a major key for the Rockets in the 2017 class. Cody Lamb , a 6'4", 260-pound three-star is a major target for the Rockets right now. Lamb, a strong but agile offensive tackle has recently added offers from Connecticut, Cornell and Wofford within the past week. His list of offers include Ball StateBowling Green, Eastern MichiganKent StateMarshall and Ohio as well as the offers he's recently added. Lamb is visiting Toledo on May 26th and will likely be back for an official visit in the fall. There is no current timeframe for Lamb's commitment.

Chauncy Smart - Auburndale Senior HS (Auburndale, FL)

Speed is the one word to describe 2017 Athlete, Chauncy Smart of Auburndale, Fla. The 5'8", 165-pound slot receiver can do several things and do them well, but he translates to a slot with the Rockets. Smart holds several offers from schools like Central MichiganTroyWestern Kentucky, and several others along with a few Mid-American Conference programs. However, Smart says Toledo is number two on his list in a top three consisting of the Rockets, Western Kentucky and Texas Tech, who has yet to offer. Smart says he loves the Rocket coaching staff and Coach Candle plus the offensive fit and fast-paced offense would be ideal for Smart, who runs a 4.37 40-yard dash. At the moment, Smart has visited UCFSouth Florida, and Florida but looks to visit Northwest Ohio in the fall. We'll keep you posted on Smart's recruitment as a decision nears in the fall.

Tramar Reece - Clearwater HS (Clearwater, FL)

You want to talk about rushing the quarterback and getting pressure off of the edge, 2017 defensive end/outside linebacker, Tramar Reece does just that. Reece, a 6'3", 215-pounder has an impressive offer list and continues to add interest from bigger programs. Reece is excellent coming off of the edge in passing situations but can also get down in a defensive line stance and quickly pounce off of the line. Currently, Reece tells me he plans on visiting Indiana (no offer yet) and Bowling Green this summer but can't rule out a Toledo visit as well. Reece says he has a top ten right now and Toledo has made the list but he plans on cutting that list down shortly. He also has offers from DukeIowa State, Louisville and Marshall, amongst several others.

Donelle Thomas - Miami Carol City HS (Miami, FL)

2017 safety, Donelle Thomas of Miami is another intriguing prospect who can make plays in both the passing game and running game. Thomas is a hard-hitter but at 5'11", 175-pounds, may have to add some weight in college as well. Right now, Thomas tells us that Toledo is his number one school but he has several impressive offers and interest from schools like Cincinnati and Kentucky as well. Thomas says Toledo is constantly showing him love and he will most likely visit over the summer along with several other schools that have offered him. We'll keep you posted on the latest.

Faion Hicks - Charles W. Flanagan HS (Pembroke Pines, Fla.)

5'10", 185-pound cornerback, Faion Hicks is another impressive athlete that the Rockets are targeting in the Class of 2017. Right now, Hicks says he has fourteen offers from schools like IllinoisIowa State, and South Florida, amongst several others. However, where Toledo has the one-up is with the coaching staff. Cornerbacks coach, Cory Robinson is playing a huge impact on the recruitment of Hicks due to his deep Florida roots. Hicks only gave up two catches all season as a junior in 2015 and says he looks to visit the Rockets over the summer. However, Hicks says he will explore all of his options and does not yet have a top school or a top list. There is no timeframe for Hicks' commitment.
