On Friday, Toledo will host their second football camp of the summer within the Glass Bowl. The Rockets already hosted their first camp on Tuesday at Bedford High School, searching for the next big names in the area. Come Friday, the coaching staff will have a really good chance to find under-the-radar prospects with over 400 prospects in attendance.
Many prospects who will attend the camp like 2017 RB Michael Warren and 2018 LB Dallas Gant are recruits who already have several offers under their belts. However, there will also be prospects there who are under-the-radar and have no offers, but are looking to gain an offer from the coaching staff during their time at the camp. One of the most underrated prospects who will be at Toledo’s camp on Friday is 2017 Holt, MI (Holt Senior) CB/RB DeShaun Lowery.
“I look forward to showing the receivers coach and coaching staff that I'm a big time playmaker on offense and very explosive, that I work hard at everything I do,” Lowery said about his football skills. “I think I can bring big-time plays and leadership on and off the field. No offers as of right now, but hopefully on Friday that will change.”
Toledo has started to show Lowery a lot of interest since his impressive performance at The Opening regionals a few weeks ago. Not only is Toledo showing interest, but Michigan State and Ball State also like what they see from the youngster. Lowery holds no offers right now, but that will change soon.
“I felt like I performed pretty well in my testing, my testing results and forty-time was good. In the one-on-ones I was able to separate myself from defenders with my speed. I think Toledo is a great program with a high power offense that I think I could fit into well and I like the coaching staff. They have shown me a lot of interest following the Nike opening and after visiting my school.”
Lowery has already taken a few visits to schools like Michigan State, Ohio State, and Notre Dame. Although, he is getting a lot of interest from those schools and many more. An offer from Toledo on Friday would make a major difference within his recruitment.
“I've been on several visits to Michigan state and I have been in-contact with them. I have taken game day visits to Notre Dame and Ohio State. It would mean a lot to receive an offer from Toledo, coming from a great school and great coaching staff like Toledo where I think I could potentially play in a environment and offense like that.”
Toledo is expected to hand out a few offers on Friday when they host over 400 recruits in their stadium for a camp. Lowery is one of those prospects I expect to receive an offer from the Toledo coaching staff. Not to mention, but he may start blowing up soon, so an early offer would be a good idea.
