Although, 2017 Pickerington, OH (Pickerington Central) running back Morgan Ellison is not the most well known prospect due to injuries the last two seasons. He is a prospect who is turning heads after two impressive combine performances.
Ellison was one of the top performers a few weeks ago at the The Opening Columbus regional, putting up a SPARQ rating of 122 and winning MVP of the running backs. About three weeks ago, Ellison was named running back MVP at the Best of the Midwest combine in Indianapolis.
Even though there is not a lot of high school film on Ellison, his combine performances have landed him offers from schools like Toledo and Miami Ohio. Despite other major programs showing Ellison a lot of love, no school has recruited him harder than Toledo.
“I get hand written mail every day from Toledo and I talk to one of the coaches almost every day,” Ellison said about Toledo’s pursuit of him. “Coach Candle and Coach George are my main recruiters, but I really talk to the whole coaching staff. They talk about how they think I would fit in with the offense. They say that the offense will be based around me really.”
Toledo was the first school who offered Ellison, that means a lot for the Pickerington Central High School standout because Toledo is one of the only schools who believed in him. As a result, Ellison and the Toledo coaching staff have formed a close bond.
“I think Coach Candle and I are starting to build a great relationship since they offered. We don't just talk about football or recruiting, we talk about other things like school, life, and friends. I have also started a good relationship with Coach George.”
Due to Toledo being one of the first schools to offer Ellison and the bond he has made with the coaching staff. The Rockets are now one of his top schools within his recruitment.
“Toledo is within my top two, I like them a lot. I don’t want to say the other school and give up who my leaders are, but Toledo is definitely in my top two.”
Ellison will have a busy summer, he already camped at Georgia a few days ago, but now he plans to visit Pittsburgh, Kentucky, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Ball State. Kentucky and Pittsburgh appear to be locks to get visits from Ellison because they are the two programs who are the closest to offering. In addition, Toledo will also get a visit.
“Miami Ohio, Ohio State, maybe Michigan State, and Ball State. I plan to get down to Kentucky and up to Pittsburgh because they appear to be the closest to offering me. I will definitely visit Toledo for sure this summer.”
Toledo looks to be the leader for Ellison as of right now, I am not sure who the other school is within Ellison’s top two is right now. However, if the coaching staff keeps up their pursuit of Ellison, I like their chances. But things could definitely change if he gets a few offers this summer.
