The Toledo Rockets currently have eight commitments in the Class of 2017. However, Fort Recovery (Ohio) quarterback, Caleb Martin has been committed to the Rockets since March 11. Martin, who continues to profess his commitment to other schools who show interest, says he is doing his best to help Toledo on the recruiting trail.
"I've talked a couple of guys that signed in the Class of 2016 but other than that I've mostly focused on trying to recruit for the 2017 class," Martin told us.
Martin, the six-foot-two, 190-pound gun-slinger fell in love with Toledo from the get-go, "I'm a Rocket," Martin told us back in April, "I'm 100% committed to Toledo and I can't see anything change that at all," he added.
The Scout three-star is now focused on attempting to build 2017 class, just as the Rocket coaching staff is. For the Rockets, their recruitment of the in-state product has led to another recruiter of their own.
"As the quarterback commit, I feel like it's my responsibility to keep talking to other recruits and convince them to get on board," Martin told us, "I'm looking for guys who want to get on board."
So, why? Several times when players commit to specific schools, those players will make it all about themselves. However, Martin says he just wants to win.
"I talk to guys with the mindset of bringing multiple championships to the Glass Bowl and we know we can do that if we get the right guys in there, especially with Coach Candle leading us."
So as the summer heats up and more recruits begin to find their homes, Martin says there are a few key guys that he's going after.
As for what kind of impact he's making on these recruitments, the quarterback says he's confident that the Rockets are in the list of top three or four schools. Martin's recruitment skills could be making all of the difference in the world with the Class of 2017 for the Rockets.
