2017 Bowling Green, KY (South Warren) three-star receiver C.J. Hayes is Toledo’s top target in the 2017 recruiting cycle on both the offense and defensive side of the ball. Hayes’ has named Toledo his leader on multiple occasions. However, he has started to blow up a little bit on the recruiting trail landing a notable offer from Purdue and programs like Michigan State and Indiana close to offering Hayes. Despite all that, his commitment date is still on for June 18th.
“My June 18th commitment is still on as of right now,” Hayes said about his recruitment. “I received a recent offer from Purdue and schools like Indiana and Michigan State are showing me some love and might be offering soon.”
During the Sound Mind Body Camp in Detroit, Hayes and his father made the trip to the camp to compete and grow as a prospect. However, while Hayes was there the Toledo coaching staff never left Hayes’ side and continued to talk to him knowing his decision could change.
“Toledo is still my leader as of right now within my recruitment. They’re currently my leader because of the coaching staff and they really seem to care about me. Like today and right now at the camp, you can see how much they want me.”
Even prior to this camp the Rocket coaching staff has been in heavy contact with both Hayes and his father trying to keep the edge they have on him right now. One of the ways they been doing that is by telling Hayes he is their “top” guy.
“The Toledo coaching staff wants me a lot I would say. They have told me multiple times that I am their top guy within their 2017 class. I like Toledo a lot, but right now it’s just about me sitting down and talking to my parents.”
Not only is the Toledo coaching staff in hot pursuit for Hayes, but so is Toledo’s 2017 commit quarterback Caleb Martin. Martin, has been actively recruiting Hayes for quite sometime now.
“He recruits me really hard man, he says the same thing that the coaching staff does. ‘What’s up man, why don’t you come be a Rocket with me man.' He tells me that we could be roommates at Toledo and also be a really good duo.”
The Rockets are not the only threats who could land Hayes’ commitment on June 18th. Iowa State, Cincinnati, and Purdue are also schools he likes. All three of those schools talked to him today at the Sound Mind Body Camp.
“Purdue, Iowa State, Cincinnati, and maybe Bowling Green could land my commitment. Iowa State, we talk a lot almost like Toledo, it’s more of just getting to know each other. Cincinnati, was the first school to offer me, so it’s like my first offer."
When Hayes goes into his June 18th commitment date, he will have a few factors that will help him choose what school he ends up choosing. Including, the biggest one in education.
“Education is a huge one for me, my parents have to like and feel comfortable with me going to the school I choose. It’s a four year commitment and I have too make sure I like the school."
