The Toledo coaching staff already has one quarterback committed in the 2017 class with Caleb Martin. However, the coaching staff is now trying to flip 2017 Detroit, MI (Cass Technical) QB Rodney Hall who has been committed to Northern Illinois for a few months now. His recruitment could change after a visit to Toledo this Sunday for a 7-on-7 camp.
“I have spoken with Coach Candle quite a few times now,” Hall said about Toledo. “He is looking forward to seeing me this Sunday at the 7-on-7 tournament at Toledo. Since I committed to NIU, the coaching staff's contact with me died down a little bit, but they are starting to talk to me more.”
Hall has already visited Toledo a few times and he has gotten a great feel for Toledo and what they have to offer. As a result, Hall can’t wait to get back down to Toledo.
“I love the environment down there, it's very welcoming, and not too far from home it's only about a two hour drive. The coaches there make me feel like I could be a great aspect to their team. I feel it's really important to not only go to a school because of their big name, but you should feel like you belong there and Toledo makes me feel like I belong there.”
Even though Hall is going to visit Toledo this Sunday for a 7-on-7 tournament with his teammates. Hall is still committed to Northern Illinois and he is still a strong verbal commitment to the Huskies. However, Hall will explore all his options.
“My commitment to NIU is very strong at this point in my recruitment, but it could change due to new offers. I am always considering new schools and exploring my options. My commitment depends on whichever school is in my best interest as well as the coaches and if they can picture me as their starter in the future. If I feel NIU or any school for that matter is the best choice for me, then I'll go for it."
Despite all the interest and recruiting the Toledo coaching staff is giving Hall, he still does not have a offer from the Rockets yet. During his visit Sunday, he plans to change that.
“Well of course I would love an offer from Toledo because I don't have an offer from them. If Toledo was an option, I could do more thinking and see what my best option is. I can't say that right away but they would be in my thoughts heavy.”
Toledo is currently pursuing multiple other quarterback prospects for the 2017 class and Hall is definitely one of the top ones. The coaching staff will continue to pursue the Cass Tech High School standout, and with Hall planning to take a official visit to Toledo in the fall this could turn into a bigger story moving forward.
