Toledo is currently pursuing a lot of offensive line prospects for the 2017 recruiting cycle. There biggest offensive line target is 2017 Ossian, IN (Norwell) three-star OT Curtis Blackwell. The coaching staff has been in a lot of contact with Blackwell. The more Blackwell talks with the coaches, he admits, the stronger his bond continues to grow with Toledo’s coaching staff.
“They are in daily contact with me between all the coaches,” Blackwell said about Toledo. “Coach Hallet, Coach Candle, Coach Ward and Coach Ciccone they tell me I'm one of their top recruits and they want me really bad. I think their really good guys and they are straightforward, they know how to coach a football team and run a program.”
Blackwell has a strong bond with Toledo and the coaching staff already because of that the Rockets have made the cut in his top three.
“I think the new coaching staff has done a great job going out and recruiting good players. I think football wise Toledo is at the top of the MAC and high nationally as one of the better teams. They play big games and they win big games. People are very excited about where the program is and I feel that it is in the right place and only getting better. I like Toledo a lot, and that’s why they are in my top three along with Ball state and Bowling green and they are in my top three because they have what I want to study and I really feel comfortable in the programs and with the coaches.”
One of the reasons why Toledo, Bowling Green, and Ball State are in his top three is due to what field he wants to study in college. Education is the biggest factor for Blackwell and all three of his top schools have a good construction management program.
“I want to study construction management, I’ve always been interested in construction and it's a big part because the education is the most important part to me. My top three is mainly based off of their education and all those schools have a good construction management program.”
As of right now, the plan for Blackwell is to announce his commitment sometime during the fall. He will visit all his schools within his top three, including Purdue who might be offering soon.
“I will visit Toledo next Friday, It's like a picnic for the top recruits and I'm just looking forward to hanging out at the football facility. Next week, I will visit Bowling Green on Thursday and Ball State Sunday. I will also visit Purdue if I pick up an offer from them sometime. Just being able to visit each place in depth is what I want to do."
