Eric Rooks Has Toledo On Top, Other MAC Schools Pushing Hard

2017 Chicago, IL (De La Salle Institute) receiver Eric Rooks names Toledo on top of his list, but Ball State and Western Michigan are also pushing hard behind the Rockets.

A prospect to watch for this upcoming season is 2017 Chicago, IL (De La Salle Institute) receiver Eric Rooks. The Illinois football prospect has been at a bunch of camps and has impressed many programs. Due to some of his impressive camp performances, Toledo has discovered Rooks and may have found a diamond in the rough.

“Toledo has a brotherhood type of environment which reminds me of home,” Rooks said. “Also, it seems like a lot of tough love is shown similar to my parents in my house. Toledo is currently my leader in my recruitment, I could see myself fitting in the program very well.”

The Rockets communication with Rooks has been very high, he’s heard plenty of positives about the program from the Toledo coaching staff and that has resulted in a really good between the coaches and Rooks.

"Just talked to Coach Sage recently and I haven't talked to Coach Candle in a while. Great coaches strong mentality, Coach Candle is cool laid back guy like myself who tries to connect with you outside of football Just how they can't wait to see me again and think Toledo. Also that they will be watching me during the season.”

Rooks’ visited Toledo back in February for an unofficial visit, the experience and vibe from Toledo and the coaching staff pushed Toledo in front of his recruitment.

“I visited around February for an unofficial visit. Out of all the visits I've taken to schools that have offered me, I felt the most at home at Toledo. Loved the facilities and the whole staff, but when I was there I instantly talked to Coach Candle and he sat and talked with my whole family that was there and he wanted to know me as a person better.”

Toledo may have the lead within Rooks’ recruitment right now, but Ball State and Western Michigan are both pushing hard for Rooks’ and currently sit right behind Toledo.

“Ball State and Western Michigan are currently right behind Toledo. For Ball State, Coach Neu is a very knowledgeable coach and has been around football on the next level for a long time. Western Michigan, P.J. Fleck is a very young energetic coach who supports his players with every time move they make on and off the field.”

Rooks’ plans to visit Toledo for an official visit around fall and might also visit sometime this summer. Even though he will make his commitment around late August and early September, schools like Michigan State, Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois are showing early interest.
