Toledo’s top target on the defensive side of the ball in this year's recruiting cycle is 2017 Toledo, OH (Central Catholic) three-star defensive linemen James Hudson. Over the last few weeks, Hudson’s recruitment has really started to heat up after he decided to decommit from Kentucky after being committed to the Wildcats for nearly a year. Since his decommitment, Hudson has added offers from schools such as Miami Florida and Alabama recently, and he recently took a visit to Michigan to meet the Wolverine staff and ended up landing an offer from the Wolverines.
Even though Hudson has started to become one of the hottest prospects in the nation. He hasn’t forgotten about his hometown team in Toledo.
“I'm still looking at Toledo, it's my home school, in my city,” Hudson said about Toledo. “I think Toledo is a great program, the program has made an huge turnaround from a few years back. For me to be the hometown hero, it would be huge I mean, all of my friends and family could watch all of the home games.”
This past weekend, Hudson and some of his teammates at Central Catholic High School took a visit to Toledo participating in the Rockets 7-on-7 camp. Hudson did not have a chance to visit the campus, but he did have a chance to talk and bond with the Toledo coaching staff.
“I was at Toledo last weekend with my team,” Hudson said. “I was just with my team and I talked to pretty much all the coaches: Coach George, Coach Candle, Coach Black. They just asked me how am I handling the process and to keep Toledo on my mind. All those coaches are really cool dudes. I did not visit the campus because I've done that before a while ago when I was a sophomore.”
Hudson wasn’t the only target on campus who traveled to Toledo’s campus last weekend. Hudson’s teammates and good friend Michael Warren was there competing in the 7-on-7 tournament. Warren and Hudson are really good friends and would love to play with each other at the next level.
“Michael and I really want to play with each other at the next level. We’re teammates right now and we’re like brothers.”
As of right now, the plan for Hudson is to narrow it down before his senior season. Before he narrows it down he wants to visit some schools like Penn State, Nebraska, Miami Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, California, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, and Iowa. He has no leaders and isn’t sure what school will make the cut.
Will Toledo make the cut?
“I don’t know if Toledo will make the cut, I haven’t thought about it right now. I don’t have any leaders right now, so everyone is on a fair playing field."
