Toledo has been heating up on the recruiting trail over the last few days, landing three commitment this past week. This past Friday, 2017 Pittsburgh (Pa.) Woodland Hills safety Saeed Holt committed to the Rockets. On Sunday, 2017 Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech offensive lineman Kelvin Ateman Jr. gave his verbal choosing Toledo over offers from Iowa State and others. Now, on Monday, Toledo added their eleventh commitment from 2017 Bedford, OH (Bedford) three-star receiver Trent Cloud.
The Toledo coaching staff has done another great job on the recruiting trail by landing Cloud. However, Toledo’s close bond with Cloud and their recent success in the MAC and in bowl game ultimately made Cloud’s commitment to Toledo a no-brainer.
“It's a great academic school and the football program gets better every year and it's close to home,” Cloud said. “The way a MAC school can be in the top 25 in the nation really stood out to me. I have a tight relationship with all of the Toledo football coaches, especially Coach Sage and Coach Candle. I talked to those guys everyday, and they recruited me hard.”
The decision for Cloud to become a Rocket and spend the next three to four years of his academic and football career was made yesterday. When Toledo receivers coach Derek Sage and Cloud’s father sat down and talked about his future.
“Yesterday, on Sunday after I talk to my pops and Coach Sage, that’s when I decided I wanted to go to Toledo. Coach Sage asked me ‘do you wanna be a Rocket’ and I'm like yes sir. The factors was where the academics and from how far I am from home.”
When Cloud visited Toledo back in the spring for a practice was the visit that pushed Toledo ahead of all the other schools and ultimately led Toledo to landing Cloud’s commitment.
“I visited Toledo during the spring for a practice and that was the visit that pushed Toledo away from everyone else. I like the facility and I just watched them practice and talked to Coach Candle in his office. They were amazing and Coach Candle wanted me there because I'm a great play maker.”
Now that Cloud’s recruitment is over he can focus on his upcoming senior season and recruiting other prospects to Toledo. He is going to do that by getting prospects on campus and showing them what Toledo is all about.
“I will definitely be recruiting for Toledo now. I am going to tell recruits to visit Toledo and people around northeast Ohio how good of a program Toledo is.”
Cloud’s commitment to Toledo is another great pickup for the Toledo coaching staff. Now, Cloud is still unsure if he will visit other schools even though he is committed to the Rockets. As of right now, he is rock solid to Toledo.
