Toledo Has Two Targets Committing This Week, Where Does Toledo Stand With Them?

Toledo has a chance to continue their recent streak of commitments on the recruiting trail. Two of the Rocket's biggest targets in this recruiting cycle are announcing this week. Where does Toledo stand with those guys?

Toledo has been very hot on the recruiting trail over the past week, probably one of the hottest teams in America landing a total of seven commitments. They have landed prospects like Trent Cloud, Anthony Crider, Vincent McConnell, Kelvin Ateman Jr., Jamal Allen, Letayveon Beaton, and Saeed Holt.

Well that streak could continue heading into this week for the Toledo coaching staff with two major targets deciding this week.

ATH DeAmonte King, 6’0” 180lbs. Akron, OH (St. Vincent-St. Mary)

Toledo began to show King major interest back in February right after the 2016 class had signed with the Rockets. The Rockets, unlike several other schools offering King, are recruiting him as a wide receiver rather than a cornerback. He will make his college commitment on Tuesday around 12:30.

King has liked the Toledo coaching staff for a long time and he visited the Rockets on June 19th for the Glass Bowl football camp. That visit helped keep Toledo in the conversation for King. However, prior to his visit to Toledo he took an unofficial visit to West Virginia in April where he said he almost pulled the trigger and committed to the Mountaineers. That visit for King put West Virginia out in front of Toledo. I expect King to pick West Virginia tomorrow on his father’s birthday, but Toledo does still have a shot as a dark horse contender.

WR C.J. Hayes, 6’2” 195lbs. Bowling Green, KY (South Warren)

Hayes is Toledo’s top target at the receiver position. He was originally planned to make his commitment on June 18th, but after a few schools like Michigan State and Indiana came into the picture and started making contact, he decided to postpone his commitment until June 30th.

The Rockets have been named Hayes’ leader on multiple occasions and Toledo looks to be the clear favorite going into his decision. During the Sound Mind Body Camp in Detroit a few weeks ago, I had a chance to talk and interview Hayes and he still had Toledo as his leader. However, during that time the Toledo coaching staff was talking with him and almost never left his side.

As of right now, Purdue is the only other school who is a legit threat to Toledo. But I still think Toledo has a large lead on the Boilermakers. Something worth noting is Hayes’ father likes Toledo and has given the Rockets his approval. So, if everything goes to plan, Hayes’ will be putting on a Rocket had on June 30th.

The Rockets can continue to move up the rankings and keep this streak alive if they are able to just land Hayes. Even if Toledo just lands Hayes in the coming week, that is still a huge recruiting win for the Toledo coaching staff.
