Toledo has done a great job of recruiting their own city and building pipelines from high schools like St. Johns and Bowsher High School. However, one high school they haven’t been able to exactly tap into is Central Catholic High School. In the upcoming years, the Rockets will need to land some of their targets like 2018 CB/WR Sean Blue and 2019 QB Troy Durden. However, that is a few years away, the Rockets will need to start the pipeline with arguably their top target in this year's cycle in 2017 Toledo, OH (Central Catholic) running back Michael Warren.
Warren has liked Toledo a lot for sometime now, however that interest declined after Warren committed to Kentucky nearly a year ago. Well that spark of interest started again a few weeks ago when Warren decommitted from the Wildcats. Since his decommitment he has visited two schools, Michigan and Toledo. Even though, he visited Toledo for a 7-on-7 camp with his team, he had a chance to talk to the coaching staff.
“We had a seven-on-seven camp with my team, no visit didn’t have a chance to tour the campus or anything like that,” Warren said. “We lost the tournament, but I talked to the coaching staff, we just talked about the stuff I was doing at camp. I think I performed well at the tournament like I always do.”
Prior to Warren’s visit to Toledo a few weeks ago, the Toledo coaching staff has been putting the full-court press on Warren by staying in constant contact with him. In addition, they are constantly building their relationship.
“The Toledo coaching staff talks to me a lot and from every coach. I think they have a good program and their going to do big things. They talk to me like everyday and Coach Candle is smart and know what he doing. They recruit me harder than other school.”
Warren has been hearing from a lot of schools, not just Toledo. He has offers from Boston College, Iowa, Iowa State, Kentucky, Rutgers, and Western Michigan. Like we mentioned before on the site, Warren will be releasing his top schools on August 22nd.
“My top list will come out on August 22nd. The factors that will make a team get in my top list is the environment, education, coaches, and playing time I will get.”
The plan for Warren and his family is to take all five of his official visits to the schools in his top list of schools. However, Toledo will most likely not get an official visit due to how close they are to his house.
“I mean I live down the street from Toledo and their campus. I go up and down for visits, I don't think there is no need for an official.”
Toledo looks to be in really good position for arguably their top target in the 2017 recruiting class and maybe in the last few years. On August 22nd, I expect the Rockets to make that list and maybe top that list.
