During this week, Toledo missed out on two of their top receiver targets in the 2017 recruiting cycle. First on Tuesday, Akron, OH (St. Vincent-St. Mary) ATH DeAmonte King who picked West Virginia over Toledo. Then on Thursday, Bowling Green, KY (South Warren) receiver C.J. Hayes who shocked a lot of people picking Purdue over Toledo.
Now, the Rockets already have four commitments at the receiver position from some really talented guys in Trent Cloud, Dakari Carter, Nick Kovacs, and Bryce Mitchell. Despite having all of those guys, the coaching staff is still looking for that big name or elite receiver for the 2017 class. That guy was originally suppose to be King or Hayes. However, now that guy is 2017 Miami, FL (Miami Central) WR Carmoni Green.
Green is a product of Miami located in South Florida, a state where the coaching staff has already had a lot of prior success on the recruiting trail. Due to the aggressive recruiting from the staff, Green likes Toledo a lot.
“Toledo is a great program, with a lot of great coaches,” Green said about Toledo. “The coaches communicate with me a lot and they are very upfront with everything. They are always telling me I can come in early and make an impact.”
The Miami Central High School standout has started to develop a great relationship with his main Toledo recruiter, Head Coach Jason Candle. Who Green thinks very highly of as a coach and a person.
“Coach Candle is a great person, just an all-around good guy. He pushes his players to not be only good, but great. He talks to me the most out of all the Toledo coaches. Candle and the Toledo coaches are going to lead them to a great season.”
Green has become Toledo’s top target at the receiver position and is being heavily pursued by the Toledo coaching staff. He is looking to return the staffs favor by visiting the Rockets soon during this summer.
“I’m going to try and visit Toledo soon. The problem is I’m in summer football camp for my football, so I am going to visit some schools in July. I’m going to try to visit at least three to four schools in July, not sure what ones yet.”
The plan for Green in terms of a decision date is too announce his commitment sometime before his senior season. Regardless, if the Rockets get a commitment from him or not, Green will take all five of his official visits and Toledo will get one.
“I will be committing before my senior season. I don’t have a leader or a list, everybody is currently equal. I will still take all five of my official visits and Toledo will get an official visit from me. They will because my playing style fits perfectly with their offense, they throw a lot.”
