Former Central Michigan Commit Brian Roberts Likes Toledo

Florida native Brian Roberts reopened his recruitment on July 1st and is now looking into several schools.

Jacksonville, Fla. (Trinity Christian) athlete Brian Roberts committed to Central Michigan back on May 4th. However, after receiving new offers and new opportunities, Roberts felt it was in his best interests to reopen his recruitment and did so on July 1st. Now, Roberts is hearing from several schools including Florida International and Toledo.

"I talk to some of the coaching staff from time to time," Roberts told us, "I get a good vibe from Coach Candle and the rest of the coaching staff. Toledo will definitely be on my official visit list."

Being from Jacksonville, Florida, Roberts has had a connection with 2016 Toledo signee, Jacquez Williams who is from the area.

"Jacquez is my boy, he tells me there isn't anything like it (Toledo) and how I should fit right in," Roberts added.

Roberts, who has offers from Appalachian StateCentral Michigan, Florida International, Toledo and Tulane has already took visits to FIU, Middle Tennessee State and Central Michigan. However, a visit to Northwest Ohio is in the works as well.

Despite not having a favorite school right now, Roberts tells us that Middle Tennessee State, FIU, Tulane, Toledo and Appalachian State are sticking out for him right now, even though he has received interest from Minnesota and Iowa State.

The six-foot, 195-pounder out of Trinity Christian High School says he is projected to play safety at the next level but could also continue playing outside linebacker, providing versatility with his recruitment.

"I play fast and I'm really physical," Roberts told us about his play style.

Roberts says he has had a few good talks with Toledo head coach, Jason Candle.

"He tells me that they need my versatility up there at Toledo," he told us on their conversations.

As for what he looks for in a program, Roberts says there are a few things that a school must have:

"There has to be a great education, early playing time and just a place that feels like home."

Roberts says whichever school he signs with on National Signing Day is getting a playmaker but someone who carries himself well off of the field as well.

"I'm a good person on and off the field, I like to play fast and it shows on the field and to the fans, if I do end up at Toledo, I'm putting on a show for sure."

Roberts says there is currently no exact timetable for an official commitment. We'll keep you posted on the latest.
