Rockets Regain A Major Piece of the 2017 Class

Just months after his decommitment from Toledo, Detroit Cass Tech offensive lineman, Kelvin Ateman Jr. has rejoined the Rockets' 2017 class.

Detroit Cass Tech offensive lineman, Kelvin Ateman was a major piece of the Toledo Rockets recruiting class when he committed to the Rockets over the summer. Weeks following his verbal commitment, Ateman announced he was going to decommit due to his father's wishes to remain patient throughout the process. Then, on Oct. 1, Ateman Jr. announced his intentions to recommit to the Rockets following his father's blessing.

"It honestly means a lot and my dad finally has warmed up to Toledo as well after listening and taking a couple of visits," Ateman told us on his verbal commitment.

The six-foot-five, 302-pound offensive tackle is one of the best linemen in the Midwest, with several offers from Iowa StateWestern Michigan, amongst others. Aside from offers, Ateman was also hearing from LouisvilleSyracuse, and Tennessee. However, the Detroit-product knew he wanted to be a Rocket all along.

"My father actually took a trip on his own to Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan and Toledo has showed the most attention. Not just football but on my well-being, even when I had to decommit. Even the other commits were still like brothers and showed me nothing but love," Ateman told us about Toledo.

Now that he's recommitted, the Rockets will host Ateman for an official visit on Oct. 15 against Bowling Green. With his commitment, Toledo has moved up to No. 45 in Scout's 2017 recruiting class rankings. The 2017 class in Toledo has the chance to be the best ever in Northwest Ohio, at least on paper. We'll keep you posted on the latest.
