Lakewood St. Edwards (Ohio) defensive back, Melvin Jackson was a hot commodity in the spring of 2016 after bursting onto the scene in a few different camps. Over the summer, Jackson's name cooled down as he began to go over his options. As of right now, Jackson holds nine offers from several Mid-American Conference programs but the Toledo Rockets remain a favorite.
The six-foot, 170-pound cornerback continues to take visits as he hopes to near in on a decision in January.
"Toledo has remained a favorite in my eyes since the start. I'm just seeing what other schools have to offer to be sure I choose the correct system for the next four-plus years."
Jackson doesn't speak to the Toledo staff too often, but they contact him about every week to see where he's at in a decision. Now, Jackson looks to take a few more final visits.
"I spoke to Coach Hallett recently, we had a great conversation at my school about trying to get me up for an official visit in January. I'm going to try to visit Buffalo, Toledo and Air Force if possible," he added.
Toledo has remained a favorite for Jackson due to several different reasons, including his familiarity with a few commits and his outstanding visits to the Glass City in the past.
"I know Dakari Carter from Streetsboro, Trent Cloud is a good friend of mine and so is Caleb Martin. I've been to Toledo two or three times for visits already and I loved the home away from home atmopshere. I fit in well with the coaches and I really enjoyed my time there. I feel really comfortable when I'm at Toledo."
As National Signing Day approaches, Jackson continues to look for his fit in a program and he knows exactly what he's looking for.
"I look for a team where academics are valued heavily for each player, a team with an unbreakable brotherhood, and somewhere that my family and I can trust to help me grow over the next four-plus years as a young man."
We'll keep you posted as a decision nears.
