In an interesting recruitment process, Kelvin Ateman has always loved the Toledo Rockets since they began recruiting him. However, after his original verbal commitment to the Rockets, without his father present, he would end up reopening his recruitment to reevaluate. In short, it was for his family to take time with a very difficult process to ensure it was the right decision. Weeks later on October 1, Ateman reaffirmed his commitment to Toledo. The six-five, 300-pound offensive tackle is one of the bigger names in the 2017 class and someone who has the chance to play very quickly in his Toledo career. Coming from a major program like Detroit Cass Tech, Ateman has been very well coached and possesses great balance and a great frame in the trenches.
Here is the Scout.com breakdown of Ateman:
"Has great upside because of his size, athleticism and the improvement he showed throughout the offseason before his senior season. Still has to keep improving technique, but made big strides in that department and has shown himself to have a high ceiling."
