Toledo Among Top Five for Daytona Beach Product Adonis Boone

Few high school football programs produce Division-I talent quite like Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, Florida. 2018 offensive guard, Adonis Boone is the next big name as we caught up with him to talk about his recruitment.

When looking at top tier high school football programs around the country, Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, Florida is one that stands out. For the past several decades, Mainland has produced several dominant collegiate football players including current Atlanta Falcons defensive back, Ricardo Allen and on the hardwood, NBA superstar Vince Carter. In the 2018 recruiting class, several Mainland Bucs have the opportunity to play Division-I football but not many have the elite potential of Adonis Boone. Boone, a 6'5", 290-pound offensive guard, has offers from South FloridaSouthern MississippiMassachusettsGeorgia SouthernFlorida AtlanticTulaneWestern KentuckyMarshallMemphis and Toledo.

Despite the impressive offer sheet, there are five schools that stand out to Boone and all for different reasons.

"The offers that stand out to me are USF, Toledo, Georgia Southern, and Memphis," Boone told us. "At Toledo, I like how all of the coaches keep in touch with me to show their interest in me and I like the program they are running. With USF, I love the campus and the football facilities and the energy of the games. With Memphis, I like that relationship Coach Silverfield and I have, I'm going to visit soon. With Georgia Southern, I am a fan of the school and the program and I hope to visit to build even more of a liking for their school."

Boone received his Toledo offer back on February 27 which was his first FBS offer and second collegiate offer behind only McNesse State. "The Toledo offer means a lot, not that it's my first D-I offer but that I've had contact with most of the coaching staff and just seeing how much they really love my film meant a lot. It's a blessing," Boone told us back in February.

The Daytona Beach product is a very athletic offensive guard for the size of his frame, making him very likable for college coaches and scouts. In fact, Mainland High School special teams coordinator, Dan Lundy spoke very highly of Boone as well.

"Whoever gets this young man is lucky. I know him from how he conducts himself around campus, and how he treats people, regardless of what they can do for him. He is a class act and is getting better on and off the field by the day," Lundy told us.

Boone has taken two in-state visits thus far to Florida Atlantic and South Florida, both of which he thoroughly enjoyed due to the energy and atmosphere, he tells us. However, Boone will look to get out of the Sunshine State for a potential visit to the Glass City sometime in June and will look to connect with the Toledo coaching staff as well as he has in their previous conversations.

"My conversations with the Toledo coaching staff have been very blunt, they aren't trying to sell me a dream but sharing their strong interest in me. They always compliment me on my athleticism on the field and my ability to block in open space."

As for a decision, Boone tells us he wants to wait until the middle of his senior season to commit to a program but with the way offers continue to pour in, that certainly isn't a bad strategy. So what will go into that decision, exactly?

"I'm looking for a school that offers high medical or business programs," Boone said, "A school with a diverse population and great environment too, that's really it."

As he enters his senior season at one of the national football powerhouses in the country, Boone doesn't take anything for granted when wearing the Buccaneer blue and gold.

"In order to play at Mainland, you have to be mentallly tough. We run so much all the time that when we compete against other teams, we get to the last three quarters and just out play teams because we are so energized and feel like we could play multiple games in the same day. We give each other energy and just hit you with smash mouth football. I honestly don't know another school that outworks us, we reload every year, we don't have a choice."

As always, stay tuned to for the latest with Boone's recruitment.
