The big offers continue to roll in for three-star Florida native, Demarcus Townsend of Gulf Coast High School in Naples. The 5'11", 192 pound athlete currently holds offers from Iowa State, Eastern Michigan, Appalachian State, Southern Mississippi, Arkansas, South Florida, Purdue, UCLA, Baylor, Florida International, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Utah, and Toledo and more offers are potentially on the way.
"Just about every school is standing out right now but that will be narrowed down in the summer time," Townsend told us.
Despite having big Power Five offers, Townsend is very intrigued by Jason Candle and the Rockets as he looks to cut down his list in a few weeks. Toledo continues to recruit the Sunshine State hard and deep ties among several members of the Toledo coaching staff continue to serve well on the recruiting trail.
"Toledo is towards the top," Townsend said, "It's great building relationships with the coaches. I fit their system and I am perfect for their run-based offense."
Toledo just had one of the most successful NFL Drafts in school history, which saw runningback Kareem Hunt drafted No. 87 overall to the Kansas City Chiefs. Now, the Rockets are looking for their next big name to mold into the school record books and potentially onto the next level.
As for what he'll look for as a decision nears in the future, Townsend says there's a few things and that he is definitely a runningback at the next level, despite being skilled at several positions.
"I'm really look at the school safety as some places and a great education and atmosphere."
As a current three-star and potential four-star before February's signing day, Townsend is a hot commodity for several programs in the 2018 class. However, he remains atop the Toledo recruiting boards for obvious reasons.
"I'm very explosive and I elude tackles well. I'm focused on making big plays for my team (this fall) and leading us to states."
We'll keep you posted on the latest as Townsend nears a trimming of his extensive list of offers.
