The Greater Augusta Sports Council has announced the watch list for the nation's top performing punter today. Rockets senior punter, Brett Kern, has been added to that list.
So far this season Kern has averaged 46.4 yards per punt, over 22 punts for a total of 1,021 yards. His long is 58.
The Ray Guy is awarded by a national committee that consists of several people, including sports writers, coaches, and past winners of the award. Different stats that are considered when choosing the award winner include total yards of all punts, how many times punts are downed or out of bounds when inside the opponent's 20 yard line, and the overall percentage of punts that were not returned. Another characteristic of the award winner is team leadership, sportsmanship, and an overall positive impact on his team.
In November, 10 semi-finalists will be chosen from the watch list released today. From there, the top three finalists will be announced near the end of November. The winner of the Ray Guy Award will be presented with it live on ESPN, December 6th, 2007. It will air on the Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
