The weekend athletic competition kicks off on Saturday night as the Toledo Rockets host the Eastern Michigan Eagles in a very important football game. A victory over Eastern Michigan will put the Rockets at 5-5 with two more games remaining. Toledo needs 6 wins to be .500 for the season and bowl eligible. A victory in all three remaining games would put Toledo at 7-5 and give them strong consideration for a bowl invite. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm.
On Sunday the women's soccer team will host Kent State in a MAC Tournament first-round game at Scott Park Field. Toledo is the #2 seed in the tournament. The match is set to begin at 1:00pm.
Also at 1:00pm on Sunday will be the Lady Rockets basketball team in exhibition game #2 against Ashland. The Lady Rockets defeated the Ohio Legends 70-69 in their exhibition opener on Thursday night. The Ashland game will be the last exhibition game before the Rockets open the regular season at home against IPFW on November 10th.
The men's basketball team will also be in action on Sunday. Their game will also be at Savage Hall against Ashland in the only exhibition game of the season for Toledo. Tip-off will follow the women's game and is pencilled in for 3:30pm.
The Rocket men's basketball team are the defending MAC Regular Season Champions and this year are picked for 2nd in the MAC West (behind Western Michigan) by the MAC News Media Association. Senior point guard Kashif Payne was named to the preseason All-MAC team.
Other Rocket athletic teams compete on the road this weekend. The women's volleyball team plays at Buffalo on saturday at 7:00pm. Also, the swimming team is at Eastern Michigan at 1:00pm on Saturday.
