Rockets Recruiting Local Talent

The city of Toledo is not a hotbed for high school football talent, but there are some Division I prospects in the City League. Toledo Assistant Coach Andy Boyd is keeping his eye on several prospects from St John's Jesuit, and the Rockets have offered one of them.

The St. John's Jesuit Titans are traditionally one of the powerhouse football programs in the Toledo City League. That also means that there is Division I talent at the school.

Toledo assistant coach Andy Boyd is recruiting several St John's players according to Titans head football coach Doug Pearson.

First is senior quarterback and safety Rick Rattay. While coach Pearson said that Toledo has been recruiting Rattay, he appears to be looking at more prestigious academic schools. "Rick Rattay is an excellent student and has his sights on the Ivy League and Patriot Conference," said St. John's head coach Doug Pearson. He added, "he is visiting Georgetown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, and Columbia." Rattay is taking his official visit to Georgetown this weekend.

Other 2008 prospects from St. John's that Toledo has been recruiting are defensive end Andrew Schaetzke (6-4, 233), linebacker Ryan Ball (6-0, 228), and offensive guard/defensive tackle Justin Leahey (6-3, 310).

2009 prospect and center Jack Mewhort is also being recruited by Andy Boyd and the Rockets. In fact, the 6-6 and 285 pound Mewhort has already received a scholarship offer from Toledo. "They (Toledo) have offered my junior center Jack Mewhort," said coach Pearson. Mewhort is considered one of the top 2009 offensive line prospects in the state of Ohio.
