Rockets Run Out of Gas

Toledo led Illinois-Chicago 32-25 at halftime, but the lack of a bench cost the Rockets again last night as they fell 66-56. Junior guard Tyrone Kent led the Rockets with 19 points in a losing effort.

The Toledo Rockets held a 32-25 lead over Illinois-Chicago at halftime yesterday, but couldn't hold onto the lead in the 2nd half.

Once again the Rockets appeared to run out of gas as the game went on, because of a lack of a bench. The Rockets are playing with just 7 scholarship players at this time.

Junior guard Tyrone Kent continued to be the bright spot on the Rocket offense, leading the team with 19 points and contributing 4 assists. Junior guard Jonathon Amos added 12 points and 7 rebounds in a losing effort.

The Rockets scored just 24 points in the 2nd half, and were outscored 20-5 during a crucial part of the half.

Ridley Johnson added 10 points for the Rockets, and Jerrah Young had 8 points and 2 blocked shots. Anthony Byrd came off the bench to score 5 points for the Rockets. Corey Bingham scored 2 points.

The Rockets only had 13 total turnovers for the game, but shot just 30% from the field in the 2nd half while UIC shot 46% from the field in that half.

Toledo has now lost 10 straight road games dating back to last season. The Rockets will return to action on Saturday, December 29th when they host Oakland at 7:00pm.
