Coach Cross Adds Forward for 2009

Gene Cross has been impressing Rocket fans ever since he became the head coach a few months back. In earning his second commitment for the 2009 recruiting class, another kid with ties to the Toledo area, Cross has proven that he will not turn his back on the local talent.

Coach Cross has gained his second commitment for the 2009 basketball recruiting class, once again finding a player from the Toledo area.

His first commitment was from junior college guard Chris Poellnitz, originally from the Toledo area.

Then earlier this week Start High School power forward Devin Russell became Cross' 2nd commitment of the 2009 class.

Russell is a 6-8 and 190 pounder who is playing on the Ohio Gators AAU team this summer. Ohio Gators head coach Ernie Miller confirmed to Dave Telep of Scout.com that Russell had committed to Coach Cross and the Rockets.

"A lot of MAC teams were watching him," said Miller. "Toledo was his first offer and he wanted to stay close to home and it was a good fit for him. Coach Cross won him over," Miller concluded.
