West Charlotte High School standout Chikaobi Reid is a defensive end and tight end prospect in the 2009 recruiting class. Toledo defensive line coach Mark Rhea has been recruiting Chikaobi, and extended an offer to the North Carolina football star a few months ago.
Chikaobi visited Toledo for a one day camp on June 11th. "The campus is really nice," Chikaobi recently told Rocket Digest. "The Toledo staff is a real good staff that seems to be really together. I like them a lot. Toledo has an excellent, winning football program and tradition."
Chikaobi is 6-3, 220 pounds, and runs a very quick 4.55 forty yard dash. He is being recruited as either a defensive end or tight end, with Toledo recruiting him right now with both positions in mind.
On top of the one day camp at Toledo, Chikaobi went to camps at North Carolina, Purdue, Michigan, NC State, Auburn, and Clemson during the summer.
Chikaobi recorded 94 tackles and 11 sacks as a junior in 2007. "My speed, explosion, and my motor to get to a tackle are my best assets," Reid told Rocket Digest.
His team went 13-2 last year, losing to the same team once during the regular season and then again in the state semi-finals. The team they lost to was Independence High School, who currently holds the nation's longest winning streak.
Growing up as a kid, Chikaobi was more of a college sports fan than professional sports. "I was a Duke basketball fan, because in North Carolina during basketball season you have to choose either Duke, Carolina, or NC State," Reid explained. When he did watch professional sports, it was the NY Giants because of their history of having a great defense.
When asked if he had a dream school that he would like to attend, Chikaobi said "I really never had a dream school. I just want to get an education and play football."
He will surely get the chance to gain a college education and play football. Reid has a sound 3.0 GPA and is hearing from many top football schools. Reid currently holds offers from Toledo, Duke, East Carolina, and Vanderbilt. He is also hearing from Virginia Tech, NC State, Michigan State, University of Miami (Fla), Clemson, and Michigan.
"I don't have a favorite right now," Reid said when asked about the schools at the top of his list. "I'm focusing on the season."
Chikaobi is planning on an official visit to Toledo in the fall. He also wants to make his college decision midway through his senior season.
Rocket Digest will continue to bring you the latest in Chikaobi Reid's recruitment as his senior season unfolds.
