Rockets Fall to Xavier, 81-65

Xavier turned a tie game into a comfortable halftime lead with a 21-4 to end the first half. Toledo could not recover from the 36-19 halftime deficit and lost to the Musketeers 81-65 in front of 9,672 fans at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati Monday night.

Senior Ty Kent had an excellent game for the Rockets, leading all scorers in the game with 37 points. Kent shot 55% from the field in scoring the 37 points, a career high point total. He was also a perfect 10 for 10 from the charity stripe.

The only other Rocket in double figures was senior Jonathan Amos, who scored 10 points. Justin Anyijong added 8 points, Terrance Tubbs scored 4 points, Anthony Byrd scored 3 points, and bench players Zac Taylor scored 2 points and Ian Salter added 1 point. Larry Bastfield, Ridley Johnson, and Mohamed Lo also played but did not score for the Rockets.

As a team the Rockets only shot 39.3% from the field and 40% from behind the arc, despite shooting a very nice 78.9% from the free throw line. Outside of Ty Kent, no Rocket seemed to be able to find a rhythm on offense.

Senior guard Anthony Byrd played solid defense, picking up a game high 4 steals and also was 2nd on the team in rebounds with 3, all on the defensive boards.

As a team the Rockets had 8 steals and forced 19 Xavier turnovers.

The 0-2 Rockets will have a few days off now to prepare for their three remaining games in the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic. All three games will be played in Miami, FL next week. Toledo will play tournament host FIU on Monday (11/24), Cleveland State on Tuesday, and West Georgia on Wednesday.
