The University of Toledo will hold a 1:00pm news conference today to announce the new head football coach. Who is the new coach? Where is he from? What is his coaching history?

The University of Toledo will officially announce their new head football coach at 1:00pm today. Rocket Digest has learned that the new head coach will be Tim Beckman. Beckman has been the defensive coordinator at Oklahoma State University of the Big 12 Conference for the last two seasons.

Before that, Tim was the defensive backs coach at Ohio State in 2005 and 2006. He was a coach during the Buckeyes National Championship game in January of 2007, before leaving to become the defensive coordinator at Oklahoma State in February of that year.

Beckman's ties to the MAC come from his time as defensive coordinator and assistant head coach at Bowling Green State University. He coached there from 1998 through 2004.

Before that he coached at Elon College (1996-1997) as the defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator, Western Carolina (1990-1995) as the secondary coach and recruiting coordinator, and got his start at Auburn as a graduate assistant in 1988 and 1989.

Beckman has worked under the likes of Urban Meyer and Jim Tressel, and has coached for teams ranked in the Top 25 for the last eight years in a row.

Coaching football is in Beckman's blood. Tim's father, Dave Beckman, coached on both the collegiate level, NFL, and the Canadien Football League. He was the head coach of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the CFL for one season, and spent time with the Cleveland Browns and San Diego Chargers in the NFL.

Beckman and his wife, Kim, have three children. They are Tyler, Lindsay, and Alex.

Tim is a 1988 graduate of the University of Findlay, and a two year letterwinner on their football team. He grew up in Texas and spent two years at Forest Park High School in Beaumont, TX before moving to Ohio and finishing high school at Berea High School.
