Toledo Offers Defensive Tackle

The last couple of seasons Toledo has failed to mangage much of a pass rush. With that in mind, Coach Beckman and his staff have been looking to bolster the defensive line and some new offers have been extended to defensive ends and defensive tackles. Who's the latest defensive tackle to receive an offer from Toledo?

Chris Jones originally committed to Bowling Green last summer, but with a coaching change he is starting to explore other options.

"Yes, I am still committed to BG right now," Jones told Rocket Digest in a phone interview earlier today. Despite still being committed though, Chris admits that he is considering other options and even took an official visit to Toledo last weekend. "I liked Toledo a lot," Chris said. "I really liked the city. It was much nicer than I had heard it was. Mike Ward is there now, and he was recruiting me at Bowling Green before."

Chris has offers from Toledo, Bowling Green, and Illinois State. Though he is still committed to Bowling Green, he appears to be torn between the Rockets and Falcons.

"Illinois State is a good school, but I am not as high on them. I am taking an official visit to Bowling Green January 16th, so I will see how that goes."

The 6-2, 270 pound defensive tackle recorded 56 tackles in 2008, with 10 tackles for loss and 7 sacks. He forced two fumbles, recovered two fumbles, and had 12 QB hurries. He was named to the AP Indiana All-State Team and has been listed as a Top 50 player in the state of Indiana.

"He's the strongest player in the school," said Brownsburg High School football coach Brett Comer. "He draws double teams on almost every play, but was still 2nd on the team in tackles. That is unusual for an interior player to do that."

Chris is rated two stars by Scout.com, and ranked as the #99 defensive tackle prospect in the country.
