Perrysburg High School defensive end T.J. Fatinikun gave Coach Beckman and the Rockets an extra Christmas present Thursday when he officially gave his oral commitment to the Rockets.
T.J. originally committed to Bowling Green last summer. However, when Gregg Brandon was let go as the head coach at Bowling Green and two of his assistants were hired by new Toledo head coach Tim Beckman, T.J. began to consider his options.
Fatinikun took an official visit to Toledo on December 12th, and liked what he saw. T.J. announced to his family on Christmas Day that he was going to commit to Toledo, and he then contacted the Rocket coaching staff to make the commitment.
"The deciding factors (on committing) were that I felt really comfortable with the coaches," Fatinikun told Rocket Digest. He added, "they made me feel wanted and part of their family at Toledo. That meant a lot to me. Another deciding factor would be the fact I see a lot of good coming to the University from the football aspect of it. They're renovating a new athletic facility and also they're getting an indoor (practice facility), so the future looks bright. And also when they picked up Ricky Steele the cornerback. Him and I are really good friends and we pretty much went through this whole process together."
Fatinikun did cite one more reason for committing. "With the other current commits they (Toledo) have right now, I felt that if I add my talent to what's already coming in we can make some noise in the MAC and throughout the country in the next few years."
"I am very exictied to join the rocket family, and ready to do my part in turning things around; back to the winning program they used to be. We're not too far off, I'm telling you."
T.J. is a 6-2 and 230 pound defensive end that runs a 4.60 forty yard dash. He was recruited to Toledo by co-defensive coordinator Mike Ward. Scout.com gives Fatinikun a two star rating.
