Rockets Defeat EMU 69-57

Toledo earned their first conference win of the season last night, in a 69-57 victory over the Eastern Michigan Eagles. The Rockets led by 4 at halftime and by as many as 21 points in the 2nd half.

Toledo took a 26-22 lead into halftime yesterday at Savage Arena against the Eastern Michigan Eagles. Then the floodgates opened as Toledo opened up a 15 point lead early in the 2nd half after a 15-0 run broke a 27-27 tie. The Rockets won the game 69-57 for their first conference win of the season.

Toledo (3-14 overall, 1-2 MAC) was led by sophomore Justin Anyijong, who had a career high 17 points. Tyrone Kent added 13 points and Jonathan Amos contributed with 12 points for the Rockets.

The Rockets played their first home conference game in front of 6,084 fans. This included the football team that was out supporting their fellow student-athletes, and several high profile high school football prospects that were on campus for official visits this weekend.

Toledo had a balanced rebounding effort, with Ian Salter leading the way with 6 rebounds. Justin Anyijong, Larry Bastfield, and Tyrone Kent each added 5 rebounds for the Rockets.

One key stat in the game was points in the point. Toledo scored 24, while Eastern Michigan managed just 12 points down low. Toledo's largest lead of the game was 21 points in the 2nd half.

Toledo will now host Central Michigan (4-11 overall, 1-2 MAC) on Tuesday, January 20th. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00PM ET at Savage Arena.
