Rockets Host Ball State Wednesday Evening

The Toledo Rockets are just 4-21 overall and 2-9 in the Mid-American Conference, and Wednesday evening they face the MAC West Division leading Ball State Cardinals at Savage Arena in Toledo, Ohio. The Rockets will be looking to keep a 6 game home winning streak over Ball State alive, while trying to snap a current 7 game losing streak.

The University of Toledo men's basketball team has struggled through a tough season under first year head coach Gene Cross. The Rockets are just 4-21 overall and 2-9 in the Mid-American Conference. However, a lot of the struggles are due to the number of freshmen, including the point guard position, and a touch non-conference schedule that took a lot of wind out of the sails.

Wednesday night the Rockets will look to put some more wind back in their sails as they host the Ball State Cardinals. Ball State is 11-12 overall and 6-5 in the Mid-American Conference.

Ball State is in first place in the MAC's West Division, and four games ahead of Toledo. The Rockets have lost seven straight games, but have a six game home winning streak in games against Ball State at Savage Arena.

Senior guard Jonathan Amos had a career high 32 points in the Rockets last game at Ohio University. He also became a member of the 1,000 point club, the 40th UT player to do so.

Ball State is 2nd in the MAC in scoring defense, only giving up 59.2 points per game. Offensively they are led by freshman forward Jarrod Jones, who is averaging 10.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Before injuring his leg last month, senior forward Anthony Newell was leading Ball State with 15.2 points per game and 9.4 rebounds per game.

The game is scheduled for a 7:00pm tipoff at Savage Arena in Toledo, OH. Toledo leads the all-time series 39-35. The game will be avialable live on WSPD 1370 with Mark Beier handling the play by play and Jay Lehman providing analysis. BCSN will air the game on a tape delay basis with Dan Cummins handling play by play and former Rocket Jay Gast serving as color commentator.
