University of Toledo head football coach Tim Beckman has announced the hiring of Jason Nichols to the Rocket Football staff.

Jason Nichols will be the outside receivers coach at Toledo. Jason comes to the Rocket football program from Kent state, where he spent the last four seasons as the wide receivers coach. Before that he spent three seasons as the wide receivers coach at Appalachian State, and one season as the wide receivers coach at Sacred Heart. He also served the spring semester of 2001 as a Graduate Assistant at East Carolina.

Nichols played football at East Carolina from 1994-97, and earned a bachelor's degree in business education from the school. He is the school's all-time leading receiver with 152 receptions for 1,557 yards in his career there. He signed with the Hamilton Tiger Cats of the Canadian Football League and later played with the Carolina Cobras of the Arena Football League.

"Jason is a quality person and a great addition to our program," said Toledo head football coach Tim Beckman. "He worked with Scott Satterfield at Appalachian State, so he understands our offensive scheme. He also knows the Mid-American Conference, having been at Kent State the past four years. He understands what this conference is all about."

A new defensive line coach will be named soon as well.
