The University of Toledo has announced a home and home football series with the Navy Midshipmen, starting in 2013. Toledo will host Navy on October 19, 2013. Then the Rockets will travel to Annapolis, MD on October 17, 2015 for the return trip.
"We are very pleased to add Navy to our football schedule," said Toledo Athletic Director Mike O'Brien. "Because of their great tradition, it is a very special game. We drew a great crowd for Navy a few years ago, and I'm sure we will again. We are also looking forward to visiting the Naval Academy in 2015. That will be another great trip for our football program."
The addition of the Navy series means that Toledo now has three non-conference opponents lined up for 2013. The Rockets will play at Florida on August 31st, and then at Missouri on September 7th.
In 2015 Toledo now has two games scheduled. Along with Navy on October 17th, Toledo has a game scheduled against Iowa State on September 19th. That game will be a home game for the Rockets and will be played at Glass Bowl Stadium.
Toledo is 2-1 all-time against Navy (1-1 at the Glass Bowl and 1-0 at Navy). The last game between the two teams was a Glass Bowl record crowd of 36,852 in a 21-20 victory for Toledo. The attendance from that game is still the Glass Bowl record.
