Quarterback Talks About Toledo Offer

With Aaron Opelt entering his senior season at Toledo, the Rocket coaching staff are looking for the next great QB to come into the Rocket football program. Head Coach Tim Beckman and his staff may have found him in the state of Illinois. Read on to see who is the latest to receive an offer from the Rockets.

John Whitelaw is a 6-2, 185 pound quarterback at Hinsdale Central High School in Hinsdale, Illinois. Last season Whitelaw threw for 2,300 yards and 20 touchdowns while also running for 1,300 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground.

Despite the great stats, his real skill is in the classroom where he holds a 5.0 GPA on a 5.0 scale. In fact, Whitelaw is hearing from some very prestigious academic schools such as Harvard, Columbia, and Princeton.

His only scholarship offer so far is from Toledo, but he is also hearing from Northwestern, Purdue, Illinois, Northern Illinois, Bowling Green, Harvard, Columbia, and Princeton. "(Harvard) chose to support my admission," Whitelaw recently told Rocket Digest.

Toledo assistant coach Eli Rasheed recruits the Chicago area for the Rockets, and he is the primary recruiter of Whitelaw for the Toledo Rockets.

So what does Whitelaw think of the Rockets?

"I have never been to Toledo, but I talked to Coach Beckman and Coach Rasheed," said Whitelaw. He added, "I got a really good vibe from both coaches and they both seem like they know what they are doing with the program."

As this time, John says that he does not have a favorite in the recruiting process, but he has established a timeframe for making a decision. "I would like to know where I am going before my senior season."
