Georgia Prospect on Toledo's Radar

Michael Bennett is a 6-3, 190 pound wide receiver/safety prospect from Alpharetta High School in Alpharetta, GA. After a productive junior season and a 4.49 forty yard dash at a combine, Bennett has seen his stock rise among college coaches. Is Toledo one of those schools that have entered the Michael Bennett sweepstakes?

Michael Bennett is a 6-3, 190 pound wide receiver/safety prospect from Alpharetta High School in Alpharetta, GA. Last season Bennett caught 25 passes for 550 yards and 5 touchdowns as a receiver, while recording 15 tackles and two interceptions as a defensive back. This along with running a 4.49 forty yard dash at the Under Armour Combine in Jacksonville has helped Bennett gain six offers and interest from several others.

Right now Bennett's official offers are from Akron, Central Michigan, UAB, Air Force, Southern Miss, and Ohio University. He's also been hearing from schools such as Georgia, Florida, Michigan State, and Vanderbilt.

The University of Toledo appears ready to throw their hat in the race for Michael's services as well. "I know Coach Nichols dropped by during finals week," Bennett recently told Rocket Digest. He added, "He couldn't talk to me, but did talk to my coach and I guess he told my coach they were going to offer. I just haven't got the phone call from them yet."

So with Toledo close to offering Bennett, where do the Rockets stand with him?

"I didn't get to meet Coach Nichols, but I am pretty familiar with Toledo Football because I have a lot of family up in Michigan," said Bennett. "I think they are a program on the rise in the MAC."

While Bennett has not seen Toledo's campus, he is planning on attending a camp at Michigan State this summer and he says he will visit Toledo during that trip if he does indeed get an offer from the Rockets.

On top of the Michigan State camp, Bennett is going to camps at Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt this summer.

While playing wide receiver and cornerback last season, Bennett is hearing from a lot of schools that want him to play safety. In regards to Toledo, Bennett believes the Rockets want him as a wide receiver, but might also be interested in him as a safety as well.

If the Rockets are going to enter the Michael Bennett sweepstakes, they might need to do so soon. Though he has not set a clear timeframe for making a commitment, he does have an idea in mind. "I really want to commit before my senior season starts so I don't have to worry about recruiting at all," said Bennett.

On the academic front, Bennett fits in well with the type of student-athlete Coach Beckman and his staff have been recruiting at Toledo. Bennett is solid in the classroom, currently holding a 3.5 GPA.
