Summer Camp Excites Kentucky QB

Toledo head football coach Tim Beckman has expanded the number of summer football camps at Toledo this summer. Coach Beckman has also added several camps at high schools throughout the states of Ohio and Michigan, making it easier for high school student-athletes to make a University of Toledo camp. One Kentucky QB has benefited from the extra camps.

Toledo head football coach Tim Beckman has expanded the number of summer football camps at Toledo this year, compared to past seasons under Tom Amstutz. Coach Beckman has also added several camps at high schools throughout the states of Ohio and Michigan, making it easier for high school student-athletes to make a University of Toledo camp.

The move has paid off as the coaching staff will see thousands of high school athletes this summer, and some of them are now on the coaching staffs radar due to the camp they attended. One such example is Dixie Heights quarterback Ryan Wilson.

The Crestview Hills, KY native attended a one day camp at Lakota West High School in Ohio, and caught the attention of the Rocket coaching staff. "I haven't been recruited (by Toledo), but I have talked with all the coaches at the camp."

The 6-0, 185 pound quarterback has been clocked at 4.65 in the forty yard dash. Last season he passed for 1482 yards and 10 touchdowns with just four interceptions in 11 games played. He also rushed for 522 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. And Wilson also handled the kicking and punting duties at Dixie Heights High School. He was 3 of 4 on field goals, 29 of 34 on extra points, and averaged 36.8 yards per punt as a junior.

He is also a very good student with a 3.3 GPA.

This summer Wilson is working on getting stronger by hitting the weight room. He is also going to several camps. "I already attended Toledo, and am going to a quarterback camp at Michigan, also Akron and Bowling Green."

Despite not having any current offers, Ryan does list interest from Toledo, Akron, Ohio University, Western Kentucky, Hamilton, Hanover, and Thomas Moore. He also has developed three favorites at this time.

"Toledo, Akron, and Hamilton," Wilson responded when asked who his favorites are. "Toledo.... great coaches all over and great tradition and academics. Akron.... good coaches. Hamilton.... nice location and great academics."

Ryan said that he would like to decide on his collegiate future sometime after his senior season of football is over.
