Elijah Jones on the Verge of Another Offer?

One key area of improvement needed on Toledo's defense is the defensive line. A lack of a consistent pass rush has hurt the Rockets over the last three seasons. Head Coach Tim Beckman and his staff took the first steps to fixing that in the 2009 recruiting class, but more depth and talent is needed. DT Elijah Jones is one of those prospects in the 2010 class.

Elijah Jones has an offer from Eastern Illinois, but he could have a bigger offer soon. He is hearing from Iowa, Michigan State, and Toledo.

The 6-2, 282 pound defensive tackle is being recruited to Toledo by assistant coach Eli Rasheed. He camped at UT over the summer and liked what he saw. "It's a great school," said Jones. "I like the campus and I like the coaching staff. They (the coaching staff) are excited about the future. It was exciting for me."

Elijah did not leave Toledo with an offer, but could one be coming his way? "They told me they would like to offer me, but I have one more class that I have to finish before they make it official." Jones went on to say that he is taking the class in summer school right now.

Elijah did one of the one-day camps at Toledo in June. He is happy with his performance at the camp, which included running a 4.7 forty yard dash. That's a pretty good number for a 282 pound defensive tackle.

Despite only holding an offer from Eastern Illinois right now, Elijah is already thinking about favorites in the recruiting process, as well as a timetable for making his decision. He lists Michigan State and Toledo as his favorite schools right now. He also said that he would like to take official visits to Toledo, Michigan State, and Iowa early on in September. His hope is that he will have the offers and the visits down by the end of September, and then make a decision.
