This morning was the first MAC Teleconference for the 2009 football season. Every Monday the head football coaches at each Mid-American Conference school will get together for a teleconference with the media. Toledo head coach Tim Beckman experienced his first MAC Teleconference as the head coach at the University of Toledo this morning, and Rocket Digest was there to cover Coach Beckman's portion of the teleconference. Below is a transcript of what Coach Beckman spoke about.

About the start of the season

"We're excited. The kids have been working extremely hard since day one."

About Purdue

"They have a veteran offensive line, losing just one player from last year's team. The tight end group is a very good group. Their youth is at wide receiver and quarterback, in terms of inexperience on the field. Joey's a great leader at quarterback."

They have two great defensive lineman. The linebacker corps is pretty much new. They have a very physical secondary."

About Aaron Opelt learning the new offense

"He's done a fabulous job. He's taken the reigns over on the offense. His last two practices have been as good as he has played since I got here. He gets better and better everyday.

The system we are running fits our players well. I look forward to a great year for Aaron."

About working on turning around a program

"You need to change things attitude-wise without changing tradition. Tradition is very important. You get better through work ethic and competition. You have to show them they can be successful through that competition."

About Barry Church

"Barry is a fabulous player. He has great work ethic and playing capabilities. It's a pleasure to coach players like Barry Church."
