The Toledo Rockets are just a few days away from kicking off the 2009 football season at Purdue. There are a lot of odds and ends to report about, so read on for the latest about University of Toledo Rocket Football.

With the Toledo Rockets just a few days away from kicking off the 2009 football season in West Lafayette against the Purdue Boilermakers, there are a lot of odds and ends to report about.

First up is the Coach's Show on WSPD tonight at 6:00pm. Tonight's show will be the first of the season and it will be held outside of the Student Union on the campus of the University of Toledo. Head football coach Tim Beckman has announced that three football players have been supsended for disciplinary reasons. Sophomore running back Morgan Williams has been suspended for the Purdue and Colorado games. Senior linebacker Daris Quinn and senior safety Chris Faison have both been suspended for the Purdue game.

The Toledo Rocket football program is the only college football program in the nation that holds the distinction of being undefeated against both Michigan and Penn State. Last season Toledo defeated Michigan 13-10 in the only meeting between the two schools. Toledo is also 1-0 all-time against Penn State, with a 24-6 victory at Penn State in 2000.

True freshman wide receiver Eric Page is the 2nd youngest player on the team and is expected to be a starter in the season opener at Purdue. Page is just 17 years old, and is currently listed #1 on the depth chart at the slot receiver position. He went to Springfield High School right here in the Toledo area, and chose the Rockets over several other MAC offers.

Coach Beckman will announce captains for the 2009 season on a game by game basis, rewarding players for effort and dedication. For the Purdue game, sophomore punter Bill Claus, senior running back DaJuane Collins, and junior defensive end Alex Johnson have been named captains.

There are approximately 1000 tickets remaining for the Toledo/Ohio State game at Cleveland Browns Stadium on September 19th. Call the UT Ticket office at 416-530-4653 for more information.

Toledo's home opener is on Friday, September 11th against Colorado. The game will be televised live on ESPN and is slated for a 9:00 start time. The Rocket Football Program is promoting a "Blue Out" for this game, asking fans to wear their midnight blue clothing to the game.
