Rocket Digest is proud to announce a new feature on the site with the first edition of the Lady Rockets Blog. University of Toledo women's basketball coach Tricia Cullop updates us on happenings in the Lady Rockets basketball program with her first blog post on Rocket Digest. Read on to find the latest news about the Lady Rockets.

Workouts are going well! Our team just finished an early morning run. Our endurance is improving! I like the chemistry of this group. Prior to this week, we were allowed to work with only four players at a time, but this week was the first week for "whole team" basketball workouts. We are still only allowed two hours a week of practice time, so we're doing our best to make the most of those precious 120 minutes. So far our team has been very focused, competitive, and presented a great work ethic. Our staff has left each workout wishing we had more time to spend with them! It is fun to work with players who are hungry to improve.

Katie Griggs, our new assistant, has hit the ground running. She brings great energy and enthusiasm to workouts as well as attention to detail. Katie was a tremendous player in college. I enjoyed the two years I spent coaching her and I know she will keep reminding our players the effort it takes to get to post-season. We would love for our players to enjoy the thrill of playing in March as many of the former UT teams have done, but we know we have work ahead of us to make that happen. All those banners in the rafters are great reminders!

September brings a new recruiting period before us. Our staff started hitting the recruiting trail yesterday. Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again" kept ringing in my head! I can't wait for all the younger recruits to visit campus and see all the great improvements that have been made to our campus in the past year. Savage Arena has been such a wonderful facility to show recruits. In January, we'll be walking out the back of Savage into the new Fetterman Training Center to an additional basketball practice court, an indoor practice area for golf, and the indoor football facility. It is amazing to watch the pace of the construction!

Congrats to our football and volleyball teams! Great win over Colorado for Coach Beckman and his team and Coach Smith and our volleyball team have started off 9-o! The enthusiasm both of those teams have already generated on campus has been fun to be around!

Mark your calendar for an upcoming fundraiser for men's and women's basketball. October 15th, at the Ohio Building downtown (on the corner of Madison and Superior), we'll be hosting a special evening with hors d'oeuvres/music, silent auction and opportunity to hear from both head coaches speak about the upcoming season. If you are interested, tickets are $50/person and $75/couple. All proceeds of the event will be used for program enhancements. Due to limited space, please call 419-530-5461 and ask Rachel to reserve your spot. She can also email or mail you a hard copy of the invitation.
